Compare AI app builders with one shared brief

Define data, user roles, mobile behavior, error handling and exit checks before comparing prototypes.

Short answer: Give each builder the same small job and compare what you can actually complete. A useful first trial is a request tracker with two user roles, a form and a status change. Keep visual polish separate from whether records and permissions work.

A concrete example

Suggested brief: 'Make a repair-request app. Customers create a request with a description. Staff assign a status. Customers see only their own requests. Required fields show a helpful error. The app must be usable on a phone.' This is a trial specification, not a claim about any builder's output.

This is a suggested exercise, not a recorded product test. It describes the result to aim for; it does not claim that every listed tool can complete every step.

Prepare these inputs

Prepare five invented requests, two customer accounts and one staff account. List the requested screens and define what you mean by a completed task. Keep the same initial brief and record later instructions separately.

Build it in this order

  1. Build the form and record list before adding decoration or extra features.
  2. Create a request, update its status as staff, then confirm what the customer sees.
  3. Try a missing description, an unauthorised record and a narrow screen. Finally inspect what data and project files you can take away.

Check the result

  • A request survives reload and belongs to the correct customer.
  • Changing one screen does not break the completed customer-to-staff path.
  • Any missing export or permission requirement is recorded as a gap, even if the preview looks finished.

If the result fails

If repeated edits break existing behaviour, return to the last working version and reduce the next change to one screen or rule. If a mandatory requirement remains unproven, compare another candidate before expanding the app.

Time and cost to watch

Record credits or usage before and after each completed path, plus minutes spent repairing errors. Distinguish a quick first preview from the cost of reaching a usable result.

Tools worth comparing

Base44, Atoms, Lovable, Bolt, Replit and v0 are candidates in this guide. Try only two initially, selected around your need for managed setup or code control. Their inclusion does not establish that all six support the same export or hosting options.
